Telly Award
2025 Telly Award
The American Battlefield Trust received a Bronze Telly Award for The Saratoga Campaign Animated Map, recognized for Excellence in 2D Animation. Produced in partnership with Wide Awake Films, this dynamic video uses detailed animation, expert narration, and period imagery to bring one of the most pivotal campaigns of the American Revolution to life. Through animation and storytelling, the project transforms complex military movements into a clear, engaging, and educational experience for viewers of all ages.

2025 Telly Award
The American Battlefield Trust received a Silver Telly Award for for Use of Virtual Reality for Ulysses S. Grant’s Council of War. Developed in partnership with Wide Awake Films, the immersive video brings to life one of the most remarkable moments of the Civil War captured by war photographer Timothy O’Sullivan – General Ulysses S. Grant’s Council of War at Massaponax Baptist Church near Fredericksburg, Virginia. In this virtual-reality experience, Garry Adelman and Kris White of the American Battlefield Trust analyze O’Sullivan’s historic shots, providing expert insight and visual context. 2025 Webby Award
The American Battlefield Trust received a Webby Award for its The Liberty Trail AR Experience, recognized int he Art, Culture & Events – Apps & Software category. Developed in partnership with Zubr, this innovative augmented reality experience brings Revolutionary War history to life through immersive storytelling and interactive technology. The Liberty Trail AR Experience invites users to explore pivotal moments and locations from the American Revolution in a whole new way – merging authentic history with cutting-edge digital interpretation to educate, inspire, and engage audiences across generations.

The American Battlefield Trust received multiple Telly Awards for its America’s Wars 1754–1945 Animated Battle Map, which details all major U.S. military conflicts from the French and Indian War to the conclusion of World War 2. The project was recognized with Gold Telly Awards in the Not-for-Profit, History, Motion Graphics & Design categories and a Silver Awards in the Online Series category. The project was developed in partnership with Wide Awake Films.

The American Battlefield Trust received a Gold Telly Award in the General Non-Broadcast category for its Virtual Field Trips series, produced in partnership with Acowsay. The American Battlefield Trust's Virtual Field Trips bring travel adventures in iconic, historic cities directly into your classroom. Each virtual experience includes viewing historic sites, artifacts, and "meeting" special guests, historians and experts in the field. These virtual trips combine great history with the latest technology and high production to create a compelling experience always accessible online.
Anthem Award
2023 Anthem Award
The American Battlefield Trust received a Bronze Anthem Award for the American Revolution Experience, recognized for excellence in Education, Art & Culture. Developed in collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Interactive Knowledge, the online exhibit is designed to showcase the lives of ordinary people during the War for Independence.
County Conservation Easement Authority Award
2022 County Conservation Easement Authority Award
In conjunction with Shenandoah University, the American Battlefield Trust was honored with the Wingate Mackay-Smith Clarke County Land Conservation Award in recognition of a partnership that transformed a former golf course into a battlefield park. The site of one of Jubal Early’s raids, this 195-acre property was previously home to the Virginia National Golf Club. The Trust was able to secure the land using member donations and matching grants from the National Park Service and Virginia state government, before turning ownership over to Shenandoah University. Since then, a battlefield park, outdoor classrooms, wildlife observation stations, and hiking trails have been established. With the help of the Trust, Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority, Virginia Outdoors Foundation, and other organizations, 25 percent of Clarke County has been protected by preservation or conservation easement.

The American Battlefield Trust received a Silver Telly Award for its How We Became America: The Untold History online series, recognized for excellence in Producing an Online Series to Document Historical People, Places or Events. Developed in partnership with Makematic and associated with the Driving Force Institute’s Untold initiative, this video series seeks to celebrate the fact that not everything can be taught through textbooks. With eye-catching animation and an irreverent tone, these videos are meant to fill in the gaps and bring new stories to life for a new generation of students and teachers.

The American Battlefield Trust received a Silver Telly Award in the General Non-Broadcast category for Carved in Stone, recognized for excellence in Producing an Online Show or Segment to Document Historical People, Places or Events. Filmed by Francisco Aliwalas of Pinatubo, Inc., and created in partnership with the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, this video tells the story of how two French officers who died fighting for American freedom finally received permanent headstones, nearly 250 years later.

The Road to Freedom VA Tour Guide, a digital app showcasing scores of Virginia sites integral to the Black experience during the Civil War era, received a Silver Anthem Award in the Education, Art, & Culture division of the inaugural Anthem Awards. This initiative of the Webby Awards celebrates purpose and mission-driven work and is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences. Other honorees in the Trust’s category included the National Geographic Society and Center for Inspired Teaching.
The Road to Freedom VA Tour Guide, a digital app showcasing scores of Virginia sites integral to the Black experience during the Civil War era, received a Silver Anthem Award in the Education, Art, & Culture division of the inaugural Anthem Awards. This initiative of the Webby Awards celebrates purpose and mission-driven work and is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences. The Road to Freedom features historic places ranging from museums to battlefields to schools to cemeteries pertaining to key topics in Black history, such as slavery, emancipation, the United States Colored Troops (USCT units), and Reconstruction — and the proactive role that Black men and women took in forging their own narratives. While the first Road to Freedom release focused on Virginia sites and stories, the project has now expanded into Tennessee and North Carolina.

In 2020, the American Battlefield Trust received a Silver Telly Award for Walk the Perryville Battlefield with Actor Steve Zahn, recognized for excellence in Not-for-Profit Video Production. Created in partnership with Wide Awake Films, the video features actor Steve Zahn exploring the Perryville Battlefield, offering viewers a deeply human perspective on one of Kentucky’s most significant Civil War sites.

The American Battlefield Trust received a Silver Telly Award for Civil War 1864: A Virtual Reality Experience, recognized for excellence in Virtual Reality. Developed in partnership with Wide Awake Films, the immersive production transports viewers into the world of Civil War soldiers, blending historical accuracy with cutting-edge VR storytelling.
Society of Publication Designers
2020 Society of Publication Designers
In conjunction with a special edition of its membership magazine, Hallowed Ground, and produced by Wide Awake Films, the Trust released a suite of supporting video content on the history of the Medal of Honor. The Brothers in Valor video won a Silver Award in the Society of Publication Designers Competition for Video of the Year.
The issue brought recipients of the Medal of Honor from World War II, the Vietnam War and the War on Terror to Civil War battlefields where they reflected on the experience of a historic recipient whose citation for valor bears striking similarities to their own. On-site interviews were combined with archival images and historically accurate reenactment footage to showcase the enduring ties that exist between the historic and modern military.

The American Battlefield Trust received a Silver YouTube Play Button in recognition of surpassing 100,000 subscribers on its official YouTube channel. This milestone celebrates the Trust’s ongoing commitment to creating engaging, educational, and accessible history content for audiences around the world. From animated battle maps and expert-led videos to on-site explorations and virtual tours, the Trust’s YouTube channel brings America’s military history to life—preserving the past through digital storytelling for millions of viewers.
APEX Awards

The Trust received a Grand Apex Award for Publication Excellence for a special issue of its membership magazine, Hallowed Ground.
