The American Battlefield Trust's map of The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
The Battle of Guilford Courthouse, a classic Pyrrhic Victory, helped ensure the British hold on the Southern colonies would unravel. Nathanael Greene fought the British under Charles Cornwallis to a standstill, inflicting high casualties, which the British could not afford to lose. Even though Greene was forced to withdraw the damage inflicted would help secure the American victory at Yorktown.
