Discover Historic Philadelphia

Explore the nation’s first capital where the Declaration was born.

Natural growth and evolution mean that cityscapes change dramatically over the course of two and a half centuries. But modern Philadelphia retains buildings and landmarks that the Founders would recognize — places where the ideas, debates and decisions that shaped the United States unfolded.

Today, visitors can walk these same streets and explore some of the most important surviving sites of Revolutionary Philadelphia.

Many of Philadelphia’s most significant Revolutionary sites are concentrated within a few blocks of Independence Hall, making it possible to explore much of the city’s founding history on foot.
