Polish general, military engineer and revolutionary Thaddeus Kosciuszko lived in this house in the late 18th century after serving with the Continental Army during the Revolution. Kosciuszko is credited with fortifying Fort West Point and Saratoga, as well as proving his military intelligence against Lord Cornwallis in the Carolinas.

Exhibits explore Kosciuszko’s service as a military engineer during the American Revolution and his later leadership of an uprising against Russian occupation in Poland, while the second floor features period-furnished rooms. A film about Kosciuszko is available in English and Polish.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial is within walking distance of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center and is typically open weekends from spring through fall. Admission is free.
