In February 1861, Arkansas citizens marched on Little Rock and took the arsenal, even though Arkansas had not yet seceded from the Union. For the next two years, the arsenal was under the control of the Confederacy. It was reclaimed when Federal troops took Little Rock in 1863. Located in the historic Tower Building - the birthplace of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and sole remaining building of the Little Rock Arsenal - the museum interprets military heritage of the state and its citizens.
