The Stars and Stripes Museum/Library tells the story of the United States' military newspaper, The Stars and Stripes, from its first printing in Bloomfield, Missouri, on November 9, 1861, to the present publication. The Stars and Stripes was started by Union soldiers in the rebel town of Bloomfield in 1861 and was the first paper for soldiers, by soldiers. The original 1861 issue, only three in existence, is on display.
