Cast brass frame. This incomplete shoe buckle was found in the encampment site of the 24th Regiment of Foot near the Freeman Farm on the Saratoga Battlefield. The encampment area was occupied after September 19th, 1777. The fancy shoe buckle frame was probably made in the 1760s-1770s, was made of cast brass and would have been affixed to the soldier’s shoe with buckle components that have been lost from the top frame section.
