Found at Philip Schuyler’s Lower Sawmill on Fish Creek, Saratoga (Schuylerville), NY. This simple hand-forged iron tool originally had a wood handle. It speaks of the importance of the timber industry at Saratoga in the 18th century. Some of Schuyler’s enslaved men, including Harre and Dick, worked to fell and move trees to Schuyler’s sawmill, where they were processed into boards that were sold in Albany, New York City, and beyond.
