21st Regiment of Foot, Royal North British Fusiliers Encampment Site, Saratoga Battlefield. This spoon fragment bears a London pewterer’s hallmark, and the hand-inscribed initials “J S”. In the hasty evacuation of the British camp after the Battle of Bemis Heights on October 7th, the spoon could have been dropped, or perhaps, broken and left behind.
