The Battles of Manassas Animated Map

July 1861 - August 1862

Experience the drama, decisions, and devastating consequences of the Battles of First and Second Manassas through the American Battlefield Trust’s Animated Battle Map—where cutting-edge graphics, expert storytelling, and live-action elements bring history’s most pivotal moments vividly to life, on ground the American Battlefield Trust has helped save forever.

The first major land engagement of the Civil War took place on July 21, 1861, just 25 miles from Washington, D.C. The First Battle of Manassas (also commonly known as the Battle of Bull Run) saw a Federal army set out to capture the Confederate capital at Richmond, Va., but ultimately retreat in disorder. Realization hit that this would be a longer and far deadlier war than initially predicted. Just 13 months later, when war returned to the same fields, during the Second Battle of Manassas, the scale of conflict and bloodshed was greater still.

The American Battlefield Trust's Animated Battle Maps Collection tells the story of America’s defining conflicts through compelling story telling, state of the art graphics and live action video.
