General Henry Knox commissioned the bell in 1797 for the steeple of the Congregational Meeting House in Thomaston, Maine. It was cast by Paul Revere, then a noted silversmith, goldsmith, and metalworker, whose foundry also produced bells, cannons, and other metalwork.  Henry Knox paid $625 for the bell. It hung in the church until the 1960s, when the deteriorating building forced its removal. The General Henry Knox Museum in Thomaston displays the Revere Bell.

A historic bell hangs in a white wooden frame on a grassy village green, with a large evergreen tree behind it and red houses lining a quiet road.
