Under the cover of darkness, 1,000 cavalrymen of Confederate Gen. Jo Shelby's "Iron Brigade," along with an artillery battery of four ten-pounder Parrott guns, formed a battle line 200 yards from the anchored Queen City. At 4:00 a.m. Shelby attacked and after twenty minutes of intense fire, captured the vessel and the crew.
Cabot, Arkansas | The cemetery is the site of several hundred Confederate graves. The soldiers were stricken by a measles epidemic while camped near Old Austin.
St. Charles, Arkansas | The museum interprets the single shot that disabled the ironclad, USS Mound City.
Gillett, Arkansas | This historic site was the location of the January 1863 Battle of Arkansas Post.
Pine Bluff, Arkansas | During the Civil War, the area served as both a staging and training facility for the Confederate army and a Confederate military hospital.
