Crown Point

Crown Point State Historic Site, located on the western shore of Lake Champlain, preserves the site where Capt. Seth Warner and the Green Mountain Boys captured the British garrison on May 12, 1775. This strategic victory provided the American army with a significant source of artillery and supplies. Of the 59 cannons transported to Boston by Henry Knox's forces during the winter of 1775-76, 29 came from Crown Point. Visitors can explore the remains of the fortifications and learn about the site's role in the Revolutionary War.

During the summer of 1775, Benedict Arnold ordered repairs to the barracks at Crown Point, which later served as a staging area for the American invasion of Canada. The historic site offers insights into the fort's importance and the broader context of the war. Exploring Crown Point provides a unique opportunity to understand its strategic significance and the impact it had on the American struggle for independence.
