Combahee River Battlefield

Deep in the forest near Old Combahee Island and the Tar Bluff, along the Combahee River, American and British forces skirmished on August 27, 1782. The Battle of Combahee River ended in a British victory and the death of the promising young officer John Laurens. The site is not accessible to visitors.
