Thomas H. Lauer

Thomas H. Lauer is a retired business executive, U.S. Navy veteran and former chairman of the American Battlefield Trust's Board of Trustees. He joined the Trust's board in 2011 and served as chairman from 2019 to 2021, following earlier service as vice chairman of the Civil War Trust.

Lauer spent more than 25 years as a managing partner at Advent International Corporation, a global private equity firm, from 1987 until his retirement in 2013. During his tenure, he served as Chief Operating Officer and, previously, Chief Financial Officer. Earlier in his career, he held several senior positions at Prime Computer, Inc., and worked as a practicing certified public accountant at a predecessor firm of Deloitte.

A former lieutenant in the United States Navy, Lauer earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has also served on the boards of Advent International and the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.

Through his leadership on the American Battlefield Trust's Board of Trustees, Lauer helped guide the organization's mission to preserve America's historic battlefields and educate the public about their significance.
