First St. Leonards Creek

St Leonard, MD  |  Jun 8 - 10, 1814

From June 8-10, 1814, the British navy sent multiple waves of gunboats and schooners to attack the American flotilla seeking defense up St. Leonard Creek. All of these attacks were soundly defeated.

This was the first time in the Chesapeake Campaign that the British naval forces faced a determined American naval force. The unsuccessful attacks by the British on the Flotilla gave confidence to the Americans and forced the British to concentrate their forces on this new deterrence.
