Marye's Heights was made famous by the First Battle of Fredericksburg in December of 1862 and the Second Battle of Fredericksburg in May of 1863. The Brompton House, constructed in 1824, became a mainstay of Civil War photography, and also served as a hospital during the Overland Campaign.
