Bunker Hill - Action at Breeds Hill on June 17, 1775
Boston Public Library
The Battle of Bunker Hill was technically a victory for the British, but that victory came with heavy losses and the realization that the American colonists were going to put up a fight. As this 1797 map indicates, the bulk of the action actually took place on nearby Breed’s Hill, but the Bunker Hill moniker stuck and the battle is still known under that name today.
