Women in War: Dangerous Work to Support a Cause

Partner Event
March 22, 2025 @ 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM EDT

Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park
Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a 45-minute ranger-led program exploring the dangers associated with arsenal work during the Civil War. This program will take place at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Weather permitting, the program will take place outside. Please dress appropriately, and chairs are recommended.

In honor of Women’s History Month, this program will explore the work in and the conditions of arsenals in which women were required to work during the Civil War. Whether these arsenals were in the North or the South, producing projectiles of war was an extremely dangerous occupation. Several of these arsenals exploded, adding to the already rising death toll during the war. Join us as we investigate the lives of the women who offered their last full measures of devotion to their respective country’s cause.
