The Final Fight of Shiloh: General Breckinridge’s actions to cover the Confederate Retreat Car Caravan
Time: 8:30a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Parking: Meet at the Visitor Center
Distance: 8 Miles Driving and Some Walking
Terrain: Moderately Easy

As the 2nd Day of the Battle of Shiloh began to wind down, General Beauregard ordered the retreat of the Confederate Army. In order to prevent the retreat from becoming a rout, General Breckinridge was ordered to establish a force strong enough to perform a rear-guard action and buy valuable time for the Army’s retreat. Join Park Ranger Matt McMillian as he discusses the plan and retraces the movement of the rear-guard action of the Confederate Army at Shiloh including the actions at Fallen Timbers.

 

*Sunscreen, water, and insect repellent is recommended. Severe weather will cancel programs.

*Space is limited to 45 participants per hike.
