Meeting place
On-site registration begins at 8:30 am in front of the visitor center (weather permitting). In the event of rainy weather, registration may be moved into the Multipurpose Room at the Visitor Center.

At 9:00 am, volunteers and staff will receive work assignments and a safety briefing at the same location. Each project group will go to different areas of the battlefield via their own vehicles. Work in project areas is planned to end between noon and 1 pm.

To save you and your group time, we recommend starting your registration on volunteer.gov before Park Day:

Planned Activities
Activities may include:
- Help park staff clean up Wilson's Creek. Runoff brings trash and debris from outside the park to areas alongside and in Wilson's Creek. This is a very strenuous activity which is best suited for adults and older teenagers.
- Assist with the repair and replacement of a section of split rail fencing. Work alongside maintenance staff as they remove old fencing and replace it with new rails. This is a strenuous activity which is suitable for youth organization members and adults.
- Help repair and paint benches used during programs such as artillery demonstrations, school programs, and summer camps. A great activity for youth organization and families with older children.
- Aid our historic weapons program. Join us in rolling empty paper cartridges for our musket programs. A great, low-key indoor park day activity for families with younger children with an educational component.
- And more depending on park needs and staff availability. Check out our website and social media for more information closer to Park Day.
History or Educational Activities
Participants in the historic weapons assistance activity will have the opportunity to learn about historic firearms in a family-friendly, non-firing program. This will occur before the project so participants can see how soldiers maintained their weapons, made cartridges, and "kept their powder dry" before they help with one part.

At 1:00 pm, participants are welcome to join the public in our Arts in the Parks program demonstrating an art activity. More information can be found at: https://www.nps.gov/wicr/planyourvisit/calendar.htm
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Volunteers working outside should bring their own work gloves and wear appropriate clothing (long-sleeved shirts and long pants). Tools and additional PPE will be provided by the park.

While snacks will be available, please bring a sack lunch if you intend to stay for afternoon public programming.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of severe inclement weather, Park Day will be tentatively moved to May 3, 2025 (tentatively). Additional information will be made available via website and social media.
Please note
Be prepared for highly variable weather in early April. In addition, outdoor volunteers should bring and use insect repellent. Volunteers, especially those involved in the streamside clean-up and split rail fence repairs, may encounter mosquitos, ticks, and other pests - repellent helps limit your exposure.
