Meeting place
Please arrive at our visitor center to sign up as a volunteer on Saturday April 25, 2026 between 9 - 9:45 am. We plan to begin work at 10 am and break for lunch about 12 pm. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. Public (accessible) bathrooms and a drinking fountain/water bottle refill station are available inside the visitor center.
Planned Activities
We plan to begin work on clearing vegetation along a new 1/2 mile hiking trail at our State Historic Site. Planned work activities are to use loppers and other tools to clear a path through the vegetation where the trail will be installed at a later date. An alternative and joint activity is to continue our modern day battle against invasive species at the site. Garlic mustard, autumn olive, bush & vine honeysuckle, and tree of heaven are the biggest threats to preserving our Civil War battle history here.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Please wear clothing that you can get dirty, but also protect against ticks and poison ivy. Please wear boots or sturdy shoes for hiking and working on sloped and uneven ground and hillsides. Please bring work gloves, although we will have a few pair of work gloves available for people to borrow. Loppers, poison ivy pre and post wipes and bug spray will be provided.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.

In case of emergency, our local hospital is adjacent to our State Historic Site in Lexington, Missouri and right around the corner from where we will be working.
