Trinity Church

Trinity Church was founded in 1696 by the Church of England and chartered by King William III, serving New York City for decades before the Revolution. The original church was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1776, which swept through the city shortly after British forces took control of Manhattan.

The Gothic Revival church that visitors see today was completed in 1846. Its historic churchyard, however, provides a remarkable link to Revolutionary New York, where visitors can walk among the graves and memorials of figures from the era, including Alexander Hamilton and numerous officers who served in the Continental Army.
