Starting as an arsenal under the authority of General Washington at the start of the Revolutionary War, this site is the first armory in the country, beginning musket production in 1794, leading to perfecting the craft and ensuring American superiority in firearms manufacturing. This site also holds the largest collection of American military small arms in the world.
