Beginning service in 1775, the Old Town Hall served as the third meeting house for the First Ecclesiastical Society. After the start of the Revolution, while a group of Minutemen were gathered at the Hall, Captain Thomas Abbey used his drum to announce the battle of Lexington and Concord. Many of these men would then journey to Boston to help in the fight, but the battles had ended by the time they arrived.
