The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor's mission is to collect, preserve and share the stories of all Purple Heart recipients. In 1782, General George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit, the forerunner of the Purple Heart. Today, the Hall of Honor is located on the final encampment of the Continental Army and serves as a registry of soldiers who have been wounded or killed defending the United States.
