Governor William Hull was appointed General of the Northwest Army of the United States in the spring of 1812, being ordered to prepare an invasion of Canada through Detroit. Hull ordered a road be built by his forces to ensure the military would be able to cross Ohio and Michigan, including along Lake Eerie and the Huron River. Hull's Trace is a unit of River Raisin, where the remnants of the soldiers' work can still be seen.
