Built in 1707, this house belonged to Stephen Hopkins, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, as well as Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the first Chancellor of Brown University, and Governor of Rhode Island. George Washington was a guest in 1776 while on his way to Boston, though Hopkins was away at the time.
