Wyboo Swamp

While the actual site of the Battle of Wyboo Swamp, fought on March 6, 1781, is now under the water of the man-made Lake Marion, there is a mural and a historical marker describing the battle in nearby Manning, SC. While Patriot Brigadier General Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox,” retreated from the battle, these small encounters between Marion and British forces kept the British on edge as they struggled to keep their hold on rural South Carolina.
