Verplanck’s Point

Verplanck’s Point served as an encampment site for General George Washington’s Continental Army during the American Revolution. It was also the site of a British raid on the Hudson River in May/June 1779.

Today, visitors can learn more about the battle via several historic markers in Cortlandt Waterfront Park. A short walking distance away, plaques mark the sites of Fort Lafayette and King’s Ferry, which were shelled and captured by the British during the skirmish at Verplanck’s Point. While the original historic sites no longer exist, the view across the Hudson River remains much the same as it did during the Revolutionary War.
