Kelly's Ford Battlefield
The Kelly's Ford Battlefield, on the south bank of the Rappahannock River, has much to offer historians, hikers, and fishermen. Located inside the C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area, visitors can find the "Gallant Pelham" memorial, see battlefield landmarks such as the Brannin House, and follow hiking trails to the original site of this strategic river crossing. Interpretive markers are at the historic Inn at Kelly's Ford or along Newby's Shop Road (Highway 673) just north of Kelly's Ford Road. The area of the 1863 cavalry battle is well preserved.
