The Camden battlefield is under significant threat from destructive large-scale commercial timbering which has been going on for several years in the area. It is also under pressure from encroaching residential development. Camden, South Carolina area is fast becoming a bedroom community for Columbia, the state capital, just 30 miles away.

The Camden trail is 0.25 miles long and with 7 stops. The Great Wagon Road trail is 0.5 miles long and the Camden West trails is 1 mile long. Walk Among the longleaf Pines at Camden Battlefield, imagine thousands of British and Patriot troops converging here in the early hours of August 16th, 1780, and the dense smoke of their artillery at dawn. The fight raged on either side of what is now Flat Rock Road. Try to envision that dark day of defeat and the struggle for American independence. Listen to the Voices of Camden audio experience to hear the poignant stories of someone who fought on this ground. The main interpretive trail is 0.25-miles long. Look for interpretive signs along the path to learn more about this historic engagement. You will also find other trails along the way such as The Great Wagon Road trail, and the extended battlefield interpretive trail. There are viewing stations throughout the battlefield to protect you from the sun and allow for a brief break from exploration. Please remain on the marked trail throughout your visit and watch for ticks and other wildlife.
