Brownstown

On August 5, 1812, Shawnee Native Americans under the command of Tecumseh ambushed American forces under Major Thomas Van Horne, resulting in a retreat from the area. 17 Americans were killed, 12 were wounded, and 2 were captured and killed.

Visitors can learn more about the Battle of Brownstown at the Lake Erie Metropark. Along South Gibraltar Road, visitors can walk along a paved path to read a historical marker detailing the event and view a set of cannons.
