Mississinewa

Marion, IN  |  Dec 17 - 18, 1812

On December 17, 1812, American Lt. Col. John Campbell and approximately 610 mounted troops and guides attacked various Native American villages in the Mississinewa River Valley. Facing little resistance, the Americans destroyed the villages. Native Americans attacked the American encampment during the night, but were repulsed. The American troops returned to Ohio the next day.

This action essentially kept the Native Americans in the Mississinewa area from becoming more active in resisting white settlement and assisting those Native Americans who were considered hostile.
