American Hanger Sword

3-D Model

Made of steel, brass and iron, this American short sword, known as a hanger, was a popular side arm for many infantry soldiers during the war. Their robust width and short length made it well designed for close quarters hand-to-hand combat. This hanger from the Princeton Battlefield State Park has a unique hand guard, and intricate brass pommel.
