Gettysburg AR: Alfred Waud Sketching

Devil’s Den

This AR experience recreates artist and war correspondent Alfred R. Waud sketching at Devil’s Den following the Battle of Gettysburg. The scene is based on a photograph taken in July 1863 showing Waud seated on a boulder with his sketchbook, documenting the battlefield he had witnessed firsthand. Waud worked as a special artist for Harper’s Weekly, creating eyewitness drawings of Civil War battles that were later transformed into illustrations for readers across the country.
