For More Information
Meeting place
On Friday, May 15th, we will meet at the end of Main Street on the historic site entrance grounds at 12:30pm.
Planned Activities
Join with students during the annual Sackets Harbor Central School Patriot's Pride Day, a day of helping around the village. At the historic site rake leaves, wash historic markers and story panels. You can also wash several cannons!
History or Educational Activities
While cleaning the outdoor interpretive panels and cannon you can read about the community's participation in the War of 1812. This strategic center on Lake Ontario housed troops, the US navy, and citizens engaged in the war effort.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Lawn care tools are available. If you prefer to bring your own non-power lawn tools and gloves, that would be great.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be moved to Monday May 18th.
Please note
The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site is the only site in Northern New York State dedicated to telling the story of the War of 1812 at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. This strategic harbor base is where the Americans launched raids on Crown Forces locations in Upper Canada. Twice attacked, the military and citizens at Sackets Harbor defended the community, military complex, and neighboring region.
