Meeting place
Volunteers will meet at a farm gate near the intersection of Willis Church and Carters Mill roads (37°24'37.3"N 77°14'57.3"W). Parking will be in the field along the farm road. Project site will be a short walk from the cars.
Planned Activities
Volunteers will learn about invasive forest vegetation and how to control it. They will work to cut or pull certain identified weed species to foster healthy native forest as part of the battlefield landscape. The morning schedule will be as follows:
9:00 - Introductions, safety briefing and information sharing
9:15 - Project work
11:30 - History talk about the Malvern Hill Battle and landscape
12:30 - Wrap up

History or Educational Activities
A one-hour history talk on the Malvern Hill battle and landscape will take place at 11:30.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Volunteers should bring a full water bottle, any snacks you might need, work gloves, and your preferred loppers, clippers, or handsaw if you have them. We will have some tools on hand.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.
Please note
Project site can be muddy after weather, and it is in the woods, near a field edge with no trail access. Please dress appropriately.
