Meet at Old Baldy Lighthouse at 9 AM.
Planned Activities
Volunteers will meet at Old Baldy Lighthouse to remove litter and debris that has accumulated along the north-facing, earthen wall of Fort Holmes, a Confederate coastal fortification during the Civil War. Work will be completed using non-invasive methods and respecting natural resources critical to the site's biodiversity.
History or Educational Activities
All volunteers will receive free admission into Old Baldy Lighthouse and the Smith Island Museum of History.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Please dress for the weather and in clothing appropriate for wooded, dense undergrowth and marshy, wet environmental conditions. Suggestions include long-sleeved shirts, pants tucked into socks/boots, gloves and hats. Bug spray and tick repellent are suggested.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.
Please note
Volunteers will be working on un-even, unstable ground alongside saltwater marsh. Physical agility is required.
