Meeting place
Volunteers will be working at the Brawner Farm, site of the opening fight of the Second Battle of Manassas on August 28, 1862. Gen. William Taliaferro would later say, "In this fight there was no maneuvering and very little tactics--it was a question of endurance, and both endured." The end result was nearly 30% casualties.
The Brawner Farm is located at 6501 Pageland Lane in Gainesville, VA. Participants should expect to arrive prior to 9:00AM to complete paperwork, use the restrooms, and borrow equipment before the event begins.

Planned Activities
On April 25th, Park Resource Management staff will be leading an effort to clean up these now peaceful fields by removing invasive species that have taken root there.
In addition, based on conditions and capacity, there may be additional projects available such as planting saplings, picking up refuse, and cleaning wayside exhibit signs.

History or Educational Activities
Park staff will present a short talk on the types of invasive species found in the park, the negative impacts they have on the landscape, and the park's efforts to remove them. They will also learn more about how some of these invasives, once cut down, can be repurposed to support species that live in the park.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Please make sure to bring all necessary safety equipment, including water, sunscreen, and tick spray. It is recommended that you wear long pants, although not required. This work will be performed in fields where participants are likely to encounter ticks. Additionally, participants are encouraged to bring good quality work gloves from home. However, the park is able to provide both gloves and safety goggles, as well as any additional needed tools for work performed.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.
