Meeting place
Join Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site staff for Park Day 2026! Hopewell Furnace is a unit of the National Park Service and preserves and interprets early American iron manufacturing in a 19th century community setting.

Event time: 10am - 1pm. Please arrive around 9:30am to learn about the day's activities and a brief safety discussion.

On the day of the event, volunteers will meet at the Hopewell Furnace Visitor Center for debrief. The Visitor Center is located at:
2 Mark Bird Ln.
Elverson, PA 19520
Planned Activities
Volunteers are needed to help with picking up trash, raking leaves, and collecting sticks and branches to support our historic cooking demonstrations and to improve the park's landscape for staff and visitor safety. There may also be projects to help our Natural Resources staff remove invasive vegetation.
History or Educational Activities
On this day, Hopewell Furnace will be hosting a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) encampment. Learn from our knowledgeable volunteers, dressed in time period attire, about the contributions the CCC made to preserve the landscape of Hopewell Furnace in the 1930s!

Our volunteer colliers, charcoal makers, will also be onsite at 9am building a wood pile to prepare for the process of charring wood into charcoal set to take place in May. Learn how charcoal, the energy source used to fuel Hopewell Furnace, was made during the 1800s.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Please bring a pair of gloves, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes, bug spray, and plenty of water. Long sleeves and pants are required if we are removing invasive vegetation.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.
