For More Information
Meeting place
We will be meeting at 45 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE 19706 for the ride over to Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island.
Bring a refillable water bottle and lunch/snacks. We do not have a refrigerator or microwave on site.
Volunteers should also dress for the weather: long sleeves and a sweatshirt or jacket are recommended.
Bring work gloves if desired.
Planned Activities
We will be cleaning and setting up for our summer season. This will include sweeping, window cleaning, setting up interpretive displays, weeding, and dusting. We will be moving our interpretive gear to the island, so there will be some hauling involved, too. There will also be potentially some heavier projects such as moving benches or light artillery cannons if volunteers are up for it.
History or Educational Activities
We will do a tour of the site for all volunteers who are interested.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
We will provide all necessary supplies except for work gloves.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will continue as planned.
Please note
Pre-registration is required, including Delaware State Parks' standard volunteer paperwork.
Should we have high winds or thunderstorms, we may need to cancel the program. Generally we will be rain or shine, as much of the work will be indoors at the fort.
As Fort Delaware is on an island, there will be a boat ride involved in getting to the site.
