Planned Activities
Join the staff of the Eisenhower National Historic Site for this Park Day April 25, 2026. Volunteers will assist staff in helping to maintain the historic structures and grounds of this famous presidential home that also troops stationed on its grounds during the Battle of Gettysburg. This Park Day we will be asking volunteers to assist in two main activities. The first will be to help restore the historic landscape by planting trees along the historic allée that runs from the Eisenhower home to Millerstown Road. For the President and Mrs. Eisenhower this was the main drive to their home, and this project will restore the view to the one they would have known. Volunteers will also be assigned to clean the historic bank barn next to the Eisenhower home. Dating back to 1887, the barn was used by the Eisenhowers first as a cattle barn and later as stables for their horses.

Volunteers will need to be able to stand or walk for up to four hours, walk over uneven terrain, bend and lift, and carry up to 25 pounds. All tools will be provided by the park. Volunteers are encouraged to wear clothes designed for working in brush. Long pants, long sleeves and a hat are recommended. Boots or other close toe shoes are required. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring a water bottle. Bug Spray and Sunscreen is recommended.
