For More Information
Meeting place
Volunteers should assemble at the historic Robert Hall Pearson Farmhouse on the Black Jack Battlefield, three miles east of Baldwin City, Kansas, on US Highway 56 and a quarter mile south on E 2000 Road, at 9:00 a.m. on April 15th.
Planned Activities
Activities will include general battlefield cleanup, invasive plant species removal, trail maintenance, and other activities to improve the Park and get it ready for the touring season.
History or Educational Activities
There will be a program on the history of the Battle of Black Jack.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Volunteers should consider bringing rakes and other lawn care tools, work gloves, and wear sturdy work clothes and footwear.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will continue as planned.
Please note
The site is a rural nature park, and as such, volunteers should be aware that there can be animals, insects, and plants such as poison ivy present that would not normally be encountered in a more formal park setting. The terrain is hilly, steep, and the ground is rough in many places, which can restrict movement for those with mobility issues.
