Here, at the summit of Mt. McGregor, Ulysses S. Grant spent the last weeks of his life completing his memoirs. On July 23, 1885, Grant died, surrounded by his family, in the parlor of this Adirondack cottage. The furnishings, decorations, and personal items remain as they were in 1885, including the bed where he died and a collection of flower arrangements from the funeral. The Cottage first opened to the public in 1890.
