The Battle of Red Bank Monument
Historical Marker DatabaseLocated on the Delaware River waterfront, Red Bank Battlefield is a 44-acre park that played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War when Hessians attacked Fort Mercer on October 22, 1777. The park includes the remains of Fort Mercer, two Revolutionary War monuments, and the Quaker homestead, the James and Ann Whitall House built in 1748. During the American Revolution, the house was adjacent to Fort Mercer, the site of a colonists’ victory over the Hessians. After the battle, the house served as a hospital.
