Named for the Knight family, the building's longest occupants, the "Knight House" stands as the oldest frame house in downtown Auburn. It is a typical example of houses built in the late 1700s. Caleb Lincoln, a Revolutionary War veteran, built the house on a 100-acre tract in 1796. An adjoining small shoe shop contains tools and equipment that show how some Auburn residents made their living in the city’s history.

Historic red clapboard Knight House (1796) with a white entrance sign, situated along a sidewalk lined with trees.
