Joy Homestead
156 Scituate Avenue
Cranston, RI 02921
United States
The Joy Homestead sits directly on the Washington–Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R). On June 18, 1781, General Rochambeau and roughly 5,000 French troops marched past the Joy family’s home on their way to join George Washington for the Yorktown campaign. Contemporary French maps mark this exact stretch of road as part of the army’s first day’s march from Providence.
