Colonel John Taylor, an Englishman by birth, served in the Revolution with the 4th Hunterdon Militia and eventually rose to the rank of General. This mill played an important role in the Revolution as a grain supplier for Washington’s Army. The mill was once a 3-story fieldstone-and-frame gristmill supplied by water from Rockaway Creek. It operated until 1930. An earthquake damaged the 264-year-old mill in 2024.
