Built by his father in 1804, Franklin Pierce lived in the Homestead from his infancy to his marriage in 1834. Pierce would go on to become the 14th President of the United States between 1853-57 in a period of growing tensions, increased with Pierce passing laws like the Kansas-Nebraska Act the led to "Bleeding Kansas," a precursor to the Civil War.
